SGT. MIKE BATTLE: THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO! #8
“Last Admin Hero”

Hollywood's disregard for historical accuracy was the main inspiration behind the creation of Sgt. Mike Battle but in issue #8, Pearce tries his own hand at creating his own unique version of the blockbuster action movie, namely “LAST ADMIN HERO”.
As with many of his ideas, the initial concept for LAH came from a boring day at work. Pearce was snowed under with paperwork and to escape the tedious nature of his job, his mind starting wondering. In an attempt to inject some excitement into his role, he starting thinking “What if some terrorists attacked the office? How would I fight them off? What could I use as a weapon?”.
LAST ADMIN HERO originally planned as a short 24 page story, and Pearce had drawn half of it before realising that it had so much more potential whereupon he went back and rewrote the entire story. In the new version, LAST ADMIN HERO became a much bigger story on a larger scale with global implications.
With the story being a radical departure from the usual SMB comics and also with SMB taking a back step to the admin assistant of John Trojan, Pearce wasn't sure if the books would be well received with fans. If anything, they loved it even more. This was best reflected by Pearce's wife. When she read #8 she said “at last, you've finally done a comic with a proper story”
